Biography
Julien, known as MacroJul, is a photographer based in Quebec, Canada, specializing in insect macrophotography and microphotography. Fascinated by insects from an early age, he has turned that long standing interest into a meticulous photographic practice.
Through his images, he transforms the invisible into a striking visual experience. Textures become landscapes, insect scales reveal astonishing architecture and colors highlight the natural complexity of each subject. He particularly enjoys creating portraits, approaching his subjects with the same intention and care as human portraiture, while adapting his techniques to their unique anatomy and scale.
By using microscope objectives as well as macro lenses, combined with focus stacking techniques, he achieves an exceptional level of detail. Each photograph is crafted with patience, precision and careful control of light.
His work invites viewers to see insects in a new way, transforming creatures often feared or overlooked into miniature works of art that reveal their beauty, textures and delicate features.
