Welcome to my blog!

Welcome to my website and more specifically to the blog section. First I’d like to properly introduce myself. My name is Julien and I live in Longueuil, Quebec. My native language is French but I decided to build this site in English to reach as many people as possible. If you notice a few small mistakes I apologize in advance!

I’ve always loved insects and at home I even have several jumping spiders, a millipede, an isopod and a friendly hermit crab named Crabe Vader. I’m fascinated by animals in all their aspects. I started photography over 15 years ago but it’s only in the past year that insect macrophotography has become such an important part of my life. I’ve always had an artistic side and have held gallery exhibitions in the past. So it’s no coincidence that my passion for insects and photography have finally crossed paths.

This photo won second place in 2025 at an international competition and it was the very first time I had ever entered a photography contest. It was an incredible experience and such an encouraging milestone for me!

I’m also someone who loves to dive down rabbit holes. I enjoy exploring, experimenting and dedicating my time to a passion. I decided to create this blog because I’ve scoured the internet for everything possible about macro and microphotography. For someone like me who always wants to learn, I realized there was a lack of accessible information on my passion. My blog aims to fill that gap (I hope!) and provide tools to help you improve and discover new techniques.

I’m not a rulebook and I certainly don’t know everything about the subject. But I am someone who loves experimenting, testing and making mistakes. That’s how we learn and it’s also why I want to share my future experiences here, whether it’s about lighting, software, DIY tips or simply keeping you updated on my projects.
